italian bsc covers

images here.

the italian covers seem to represent scenes from the book better than the US ones, and draws the girls more accurately apart from Mary Anne's glasses (?).

finally

New article.

An update on the cover saga (no one cares but me, but hey, cool). The mysterious book club cover is not the mysterious Canadian cover! The plot thickens.

cover mysteries

The BSC books are out-of-print; nothing new has been published since Graduation Day and the books are fast becoming relegated to used bookstories and Salvation Armies. Yet there are still signs of life in the BSC publication realm. These signs are "cover mysteries."

The first is one I found on the Scholastic Canada website.

What kind of cover is this? Is it Canada-only, or is it also found in the States?

The answer may have come from Jon Merrill, maintainer of The BSC Companion (which if you have not visited you should!). He obtained a copy of Kristy's Great Idea that was very mysterious: it had a different, modernized cover and was published in 2001, book club only. Is the cover from Canada the Book Club cover? I am waiting anxiously to find out.

If BSC is still being sold through book clubs, there is hope for the series to remain alive and to garner new fans. The Arrow Book Club was, after all, the channel through which I became a fan in the first grade.

it's been a long time

I know, I know. I haven't updated in forever. I have been busy with schoolwork, hundreds (or is it thousands?) of miles away from my collection of BSC books.

I have an idea for an article that will be, I think, of great importance in the canon of BSC research... because there is just so much of it. It will take a lot of work and citing and going through the books to find the quotes and evidence that I need. It could also be controversial... because some things just are. I hope, however, that people will start to receive such articles with open minds and a sense of humor, because sometimes you have to step back and realize the utter utopian ridiculousness of the BSC series and embrace it.

So what have I been doing, exactly? Embroiling myself in lots and lots of a)Slavicism, and b)socializing. I feel like I could write a diary as dramatic as the CA Diaries, which I have been meaning to do but have so far not done.

Also: IMPORTANT!!! I want to make a BSC Fanzine this summer. If you'd like to contribute, email me and we'll talk.

new content!

Well, it's been a while. I have been adjusting to school and in general, not thinking of this site as much as I should. However, since I've been home on break I have created something new: a CA Diaries quiz. I didn't do pictures yet, but... hey, it's something.

Also, there's been some additions to the links section. So check that out as well.

I'm still hoping to do a redesign, but I'm waiting for the right layout idea to hit me.

just not dibble enough

In Mary Anne vs Logan, the word "acute"--meaning chilly, dibble, fresh, etc.--is used about, oh, fifty times. It is never seen again. I guess you really don't need five different words for "cool."

uk covers

Thought Hodges Soileau did tacky covers? He looks like a amazing, talented artist next to the UK BSC Abominations.

fonts

I (finally!) added the mac versions of the BSC handwriting fonts.

(Did anyone else spend hours practicing the BSC handwritings? Kristy's was the hardest; Dawn, Jessi, and Stacey's the easiest.)

three new links

Which is quite promising.

Quasi-new

Okay, so. I have rewritten the about, disclaimer, and hosting pages; changed the font; created a separate page for the links instead of putting it the sidebar; stuck the articles in a sidebar, and just did some general reorganization. I have also taken the front page and turned it into a blog through blogger, which was a headache to do but should make updating much easier. All of the reorganizations of the site were done in order to make the site as easy to upkeep as possible.

Any BSC news? No, not really, except that Paula Danziger, Ann's co-author in the Elizabeth and Tara*Starr books, died in June.

Okay, that's it.
